I have been a big student of off and online marketing for more than 2 decades and have been a part of several big and respectfully successful marketing projects. This is how I have made my living in the technology world for the last decade - and offline for the 10 years prior to that.

A few years back I was following an online marketing guru who wanted to prove that he could do $1,000,000 in online sales in 24 hours.
